Default canoe/ kayak races

Hey kids, I found some races to keep you motivated to stay in shape this winter. There is the 8 mile Vermilion race on March 28. More info at www.keelhaulers.org. I would like to do this one only because I have not been on the Vermilion River and it could be a future club run. Call it a $15 scouting run with 100 other people ! The other race is on the Grand River on April 24th. More info for that one at www.lakemetropark.com. Both of these races are for recreational boaters with a class for all. ( I would be in K1S- senior, over 50, with kayak up to 14.4 ft).

Default So... did you go?

How was it? The 49 degree temp kept me away and I didn't want to be in the rain in 49 degrees.

Good for you! Are you going to the race on the Susquehanna? How far away is it? I'm hoping to go on the Beaver run this Sun. Looks like you can't make Sunday huh?

Smile Congrats

Obviously you have skill and ability to outperform all the others in the race,ad let me add my congratulations also. My question to you is... What are you paddling?... I may be looking at another kayak soon and I am looking for suggestions.

Default Grand River

Just signed up for the Grand River race in 2 week , haven't done that race, any tips? got to leave as soon as I finish have to be at work in Pittsburgh at 2:30
I usually race with my tempest a 17 ft sea kayak plastic the longer and thinner a boat is the faster the boat is, the shorter and fatter a boat is the more stable. Sometimes I use my 13ft Necky, it is much lighter if I have to portage. Plastic is more durable but fiberglass is much faster but you can't hit the rocks or drag it. Kaevlar is lighter and faster and more expensive yet it also cracks.

Default rescheduling of Lakemetro Parks canoe race

Because of low water conditions last week, the Grand River Canoe Race that was scheduled for April 24th, was rescheduled for next Saturday, May 1st. Room will be made at my house for any TCT members the night before so they can be fresh for the race. I will be particapating as well. If interested you may call me at (440) 228-3261 Rich
