Lake Newport-Mill Creek Park
Since French Creek is cancelled and I really want to paddle and hope others would want to. I am going to still lead a trip.
I figured we could do Lake Newport in Mill Creek Park. Been several years since we have paddled the lake and through the Islands it has to offer. Lake Newport (Mill Creek Park) When-Sunday May 7th Where- East Newport Boat Launch, East Newport Dr. Youngstown, OH 44512 GPS 41.060172, -80.673864 Time 12:30 pm Here is link from the Mill Creek Metro Parks for exact location of boat launch http://www.millcreekmetroparks.org/v...boat-launch-2/ With the forecast being around 50 and partly cloudy I just can't see stay home and not paddling. It would feel like a crime. This is a nice lake that offers a river feel to it. As you leave the main lake you enter a area that is split up with little islands that make some channels. We paddle through the channels and paddle far up Mill Creek until we are unable to and turn around ahead back to the lake. On the way back we will pick a different channel to paddle through and head back to the launch. In total I believe it should be about a 2 hour paddle if I remember correctly. Hope to see other show up on a day where rivers are just to high; but still a nice day to paddle. Mike Danko

What a great day. Temps in the mid 50s and some head wind. A total of 13 paddlers and one k9 made today's back up paddle.
We had 10 regular kayaks, 1 whitewater kayak (Tim's new boat, bought it from Jonathan. So kayak stays in the tct club) 1 Canoe captained by a dog named Tori. It was nice to see a great turn out on a day that was so nice. We paddled through the wetlands and made it close to shields rd. There was a strong current as we paddle towards shields rd, but a nice easy ride back to the lake. Thanks to all who came. It was nice to see new & old friends on a great day.
