Wonderful trip!
Many thanks to Mike Danko for leading a group of 10 TCT paddlers in three canoes and seven kayaks down the Shenango River between West Middlesex and Pulaski on a glorious autumn day. The river was running low (2.36 on the Sharpsville gage), but high enough to give us a couple inches of water. Occasionally the wind kicked up to blow the canoes around a bit, but it was not enough to diminish the joy of paddling through a beautiful riverscape for the six-mile trip. We were on the river for about three hours, including a half hour stop for lunch at the mid-way point. Three paddlers extended the trip a short distance to run the rapid below the take out. They were rewarded with a chance to wade through 60 degree water while dragging their boats back up river to the takeout. Though it was tempting, no one walked their boat up through the rapid a quarter mile above the put in to run it and ensure cold, wet feet for the next three hours! Special thanks to Bob Danko who came to help with the shuttle even though he did not paddle. Once again, it was a great day to be on the river!
Photo of paddlers is below taken by Bob Danko. Mary Kane was on the trip but is missing from the picture. Last edited by JPTolson; 10-09-2022 at 09:38 PM. |
