Little Beaver Creek - May 2nd
Meet at the Sprucevale access parking lot at 11 a.m. and we will be paddling the lower section from Sprucevale to the RT 68 Bridge. The rapid just downstream of the Fredericktown bridge, Eagle rapid (class II), is the biggest on the creek. There are some other mild class I rapids on downstream. Bring your spray skirt if you have one. It will keep you dry going through Eagle rapid. The stream bed is mostly rocky, with serious strainers being a rare occurrence. It will take approximately 3.5 to 4 hours for the 10.5 mile trip. Pack a sandwich & drinks as we will pull over to eat. Please call or email me by April 29th if you plan on attending the trip. Leave a message with your name, number and how many people.

The link for directions to the Little Beaver run in the newsletter is actually on two lines. The link should be: www.trumbullcanoetrails.org/Gmaps/lbcs2rt68b

question
Do we need to arrange for our own shuttle back to the put in? I will probably need help if it's available: I have one car with 2 boat racks. Is 11 am meeting time after shuttle arrangements are complete or before shuttle arrangements? Can you tell I'm fairly new at this? I usually paddle back and forth somewhere so I don't have to shuttle. Thanks for any help. Sue

Well to tell you the truth, I am new at doing this with a big group myself. I have only been on a few trips with the club and both times I had a friend that came with me that drove so we had our shuttle taken care of. I don't think you will have to arrange your own shuttle back to the put in. EAR told me that the shuttle back shouldn't be too bad. We will take the least amount of cars we can get away with to the take out. Stan will be bringing Ear's trailer. The meeting time is at 11am before shuttle arrangements so we can see what we have to work with.

It may be too late for a response tonight, but.....
Thanks for the info. I think I will have my friend drive and if we don't need her car we'll park it. Also, how much rain is too much (tonight). How do we know if the creek is too high from the rain? Is there a cut-off or do we just check it out tomorrow? I saw the link to the gauge page, but I don't know enough about it to understand what it means. If I don't hear back tonight-we'll see you at 11!

That was a nice run. I hope everyone liked that section of Litte Beaver Creek. It is one of my favorites. Check out my pics here. http://trumbullcanoetrails.org/forum...ow.php?trip=21

Thanks for the Trip!
Dustin,
Thanks very much for stepping forward to lead a trip down Little Beaver. From my view conditions couldn't have been any better?a juicy water level, cool temps and mostly sunny skies, wildflowers galore, wonderful scenery, and a great bunch of folks. See you on the river. John Paul |

It was a beautiful day on Little Beaver Creek with mostly sunny skies. We had twenty paddlers in seventeen kayaks and two canoes. The section we did from Sprucevale to RT 68 bridge has nice sections of rapids that were fun at the water level the creek was at that day. The gauge at Grimms bridge reported a height of 5.7ft and a flow of 1600cfs. The trip took around 5 hours with a few stops along the way. We had a few people in the water at times and a tree-assisted roll by one paddler where we had to rescue his pinned kayak. This is a scenic trip and is one of my favorite local trips. I recommend this to anyone who hasn't done this section yet.
