2-28 West Fork or Ashtabula River
On Sunday I can paddle, I am looking at 5 options.
Option 1- West Fork Beaver Creek- Very Hard to catch last paddled 2014. I would prefer to do this paddle specially if others would join me!! flat water some wave trains. Nice current most of trip. Option 2- Depending on Level I would go White water on Ashtabula River. All Class II one Class III at high water. Option 3- is if Ashtabula is to high then I would go to Conneaut Creek that is more flat with some nice wave trains Option 4- Beaver Creek Sprucevale to Ohio River Option 5- Neshannock Creek PA, We did this has a club paddle 2014 Gorge is class II whitewater from Gorge down to New Castle is nice with lots of wave train as you get closer to New Castle. If you are interested let me know or post it Mike Danko Last edited by mfdanko99; 02-26-2016 at 02:47 PM. |

Many thanks to Mike Danko for organizing this trip. It was a superb day and an absolutely beautiful run. The scenery tops the stretch from Sprucevale to the Ohio River. We probably had about three to four inches of water. Lots of kingfishers and a number of hawks entertained us along the way. Hemlocks are abundant along the steep hillsides and icicles were stubbornly holding on to the shale cliffs on the shady side of the creek. It was a great day to be on the river...and in February!

Thank you John Paul & Ron for joining Jessica and me on a great trip. It doesn't get much better than a small creek, great current, sun and GREAT COMPANY!!
I looked up on my map my run website. Last time I did paddle this it was 2014, total Mileage is 13.3 The true half way point is just about were RT 11 crosses the creek. We had lunch at the old dam and it is 7.34 miles in to the trip I truly enjoy this section, like JP said it is more scenic. It doesn't have the big rapids, but a lot of little ripples and twist and turns. My guide book says it is only runnable about 15% of the year. USGS gauge at Grimms Bridge read 4.7 ft when I left house and that gave us a couple of inches of water. We only portaged once due to a down tree. Thanks again Mike |
