On Sunday, we had 8 souls with an even split of canoes and kayaks to travel from Chochranton to Utica on French Creek. The water seemed high with a decent current, but not so much as to give us any trouble. The gauge at Utica was right around 4.5 feet. The day was overcast with an air temp around 50. Despite having to change plans from the Sandy Creek trips to the French, things worked out and we enjoyed a pleasant day on the water. We give our thanks to Burt for leading this trip.

And, in the endless tussle for the upper hand between canoes and kayaks, canoes were declared the winner by Ed Rigby. This was thanks to the tie-breaking rules established by Ed himself. The Rigby rules state that when the number of canoes and kayaks are equal, then the cumulative length of all canoes versus the cumulative length of all kayaks on the trip determines the winner.
Paddlers were Burt Martin, Dustin Noel, Tom Smith, Jim Bozdog, Mark Vallecorsa, Stan Shiderly, Ed Rigby, and J.P. Tolson. Here are a couple shots from the trip: Last edited by JPTolson; 03-07-2024 at 08:05 AM. |

Looks like TCT IS the Allegheny Canoe Club!
Unfortunately for those of us further west in Ohio the PA rivers take a lot more driving and time. I am not quite as quick to join in when there's a 2+ hour drive. ---KenM |
