Upper Grand River Review
On Sunday June 9th Jessica and myself did the last part of the upper grand river. This was a new section for us.
With Vrooman Rd and Masons landing closed we put in at Blair Road Metro Park and took out at Beaty Landing Metro Park. This section is 8.67 Miles long. USGS at the park was 4.02 ft. with 1830 CFS. Was a really easy paddle at this level. Would make a great club trip as it is the flattest section down river from harpersfield. We made the trip in 1hr 35 minutes Look forward to trying this section at a lower level. Mike

I guess this actually would be the lower grand since it flows to the lake. We took out about 10 miles from lake Erie

Upper/Lower
The Grand River runs for 102 miles. Drains 712 Sq Miles (455,680 acres.
It seems though that I have always heard of the "upper" above the dam and "lower" below the Harpersfield dam put-in (which is river mile 30.8). A couple of miles above where the dam is and the river starts to run west, the geology makes a distinct change. The river changes from a mud/clay bottom to mostly rock. fwiw... Blair Rd is River Mile 16.4. Beaty Landing RM 8.4 We paddled from about RM 52 to 32 KenM |
