Water follies at the Riverfest
Another great "Riverfest" event with lots of new faces. I got lucky with only one young lady who could not paddle well at all, and a lot of experienced kayakers who needed no instruction whatsoever. The highlight for me was the "mom' Deirdra and her two daughters, Tessa & (??) from Columbiana who saw the event advertised on TV that morning and drove up for the kayak rides. Kristin and I guided Mom & one daughter in kayaks while Ed Haun paddled the tandem kayak with the other daughter. Kristin had a pair of "water balls" and we played like little kids on the water pelting each other. We all had a blast (except for Ed who was pelted all day long)!! I am already looking forward to next year! Thanks to everyone who participated from TCT - it is truly a group effort!

Jessica...you got some nice photos fro Riverfest. Especially nice to get a couple of me in the Grumann.
I seemed to have gotten quite a few little kids.... with hands in the water of course. I think I remember how fun that was so I really didn't object. It was with hesitation though that I took my 2 foot long paddle along. I once used it while fishing. Several kids did just fine with the paddle but the girl in photo #8 was determined to paddle backwards and put the brakes on....and we were going upstream of course. I just groaned a bit and put more back muscle into it. Maybe she'll be a paddler some day? I couldn't complain. After all, I think we all feel the exhilaration when we get our hands on a canoe paddle. Just look what happened to BobK !! -KenM |
