Mahoning River Otters
On Saturday Jess and I took three friend from Canoe City to Packard Park.
As usual we saw the bald eagles fly over not far from there nest by North River Road. We were just down stream where the old Copperweld Pump house was and a home owner came out and talked to us as we were watching the eagles. His name is Tom Underwood. He was able to show us proof of a family of 5 river otters living on the Copperweld side of the river. We paddled a crossed and found the opening to the hut and were the parent otters catch fish and regurgitate it for the young ones to eat. he as pictures and video of them playing in the water and on shore. He even has video of them play on the ice when it froze over. It looked like a hockey game he said. He said imagine how they acted at sea world the ocean otters, and the river otter act the same way. very playful and even tries to play with his golden lab. We spent at lease a half hour talking to him and he might come join us at our club picnic. https://www.google.com/maps/@41.2677.../data=!3m1!1e3 The link show the old pump house and the hut is just down river across from Lynwood dr Mike Danko
